Olympia, Olympia!

May29

I’m in that stressed-out mood that turns to something resembling anger, which makes me want to do nothing more than be unpleasant, kick things pointlessly, and have a few nice vodka-based drinks. Generally, this mood only comes about when I’m doing something I really care about, so I’m trying to frame it in those terms.

I am very close to finishing Furlough two. I’ve scanned and polished each page; what remains is to letter (gah) with a stylus (GAH) and then to do the things I consider simpler, like drawing and painting covers, laying out the whole thing, and drawing page 36. I think it’s going to be a tradition with me that, if i can help it, the last page of a given book will be a bullshit strip, which I will do only once almost everything else is done. When you’re doing something very long that requires a great deal of stamina, you can lose sight of the satisfaction of finishing something quickly. Writing and penciling and inking one page in one long session can set that to rights.

Now, to pictures.

I have a table at Stumptown!

April19

Woohoo! I got the call today (literally, a real phone call in this here internet age), and I’m in. I’ll be at table 19A at the Stumptown Comics Fest this weekend. Come see me – I’ll have copies of Furlough issue one, plus all my zines and prints. I tend to run show specials, so there’s that too. Look for the bright orange table – you know, the one with me behind it.

Wow, I have a lot to do.

Where You’ll Find Me Now

April8

For all the reasons I outlined in the last post, my schedule is delightfully and completely unpredictable at the moment. However, there’s now an official place and time you’ll be able to find me.

That day is June 5, 2010 (a Saturday), and I’ll be at the Olympia Comics Festival in… Olympia, Washington.

I’ve lived in Seattle for about five-and-a-half years now (!), but I’ve never made it to Olympia. I have a friend who lives in Olympia, but I’ve still never been there. So I’m excited about this trip for several reasons – comics, seeing my friend’s home turf, and capitols. I like capitols. When I lived in Boston for college, I was always within a fifteen-minute walk of the city’s capitol (which I may have consistently and constantly referred to as the big golden tit, though I can’t imagine why). I’ve wanted to see Washington’s for ages.

So! Another event. I’ll have Furlough two done for it and for sale there before it’s available online. Come say hello. Talking comics is one of my very favorite things, only trumped by talking about my comics, so I promise I’ll be glad to see you.
